On Friday March 19, 2010 the elementary children and staff at the United Nations International School (UNIS) in New York City dressed in their pajamas. Every child who wore their pajamas on 'PJs for Painful Joints' Day made a donation to the Jeffrey Gottfurcht Children's Arthritis Foundation.
Eight years ago a young Grade 2 student noticed his teacher's crooked hands. As he began to observe her more closely he realized that she was often in pain. Now 15, Joseph Lebowitz and his family, continue to support UNIS teacher, Ms. Ager, hoping to raise awareness about juvenile arthritis (JA). Over the years, Joseph has spoken to fellow students at UNIS and has motivated them so greatly that they decided to have an annual elementary school event for JA known as 'PJs for Painful Joints' day (so named by past student CC). The Jeffrey Gottfurcht Children's Arthritis Foundation has whole heartedly embraced this idea. The children will be tracking Jeffrey's Mount Everest climb in 2010 and will be there with him in spirit every step of the way.
